Lazy Susans are a unique household item. The earliest record of one notes an eighteenth century Russian poet who reportedly had no butler and welcomed guests to his estate via signs that led them to a large, elaborate dining room. At the center lay a beautiful dining table with a massive rotating center piece that held food and wine that guests could help themselves, a taboo and unorthodox formality amongst the nobility at the time. And thus, the concept of a Lazy Susan took off. It was later revived in the 1960s and '70s, and once again is making a much needed come back as an essential household item that properly helps families enjoy the countless delicious dishes and warm conversation.
